How the 8th Pay Commission Will Restructure Pay

DA Merger Mechanics

Whenever a new pay commission is constituted, the accumulated Dearness Allowance (currently 50%) is merged into the basic pay structure, and the DA counter is reset to zero percent. Subsequent inflation compensation starts afresh.

Fitment Factor Explained

The fitment factor is the universal multiplier applied to an employee's existing basic pay to calculate their new entry pay cell. A factor of 2.86x means every rupee of existing basic pay translates into ₹2.86 of revised basic pay.

Impact on Pensioners

Over 67 lakh Central Government pensioners benefit from identical fitment multipliers. Existing pensions are upgraded to 50% of the revised basic pay corresponding to the rank and pay level at retirement.
